School Overview:

Sakura International School was established by Kansai International Academy. Sakura International School provides a balanced, holistic bilingual program where students can be proficient in both English and Japanese. We place a strong emphasis on the Japanese cultural identity. Another core philosophy is leadership. Students are encouraged to be independent and take responsibility for their own learning and other areas of school life as well as being mindful of and caring toward others.

Structure of teacher and student numbers:

Each homeroom has an international and Japanese teacher. The maximum student number for each class is 16 for 1-2 year olds, 18 for 2-3 year olds, and 20 for 3-6 year olds. For classes of 1-3 year olds an additional Japanese teacher will be placed for days when student numbers are over 12.

School Start Date:

New Open from 6 January 2015

Academic Year: April – March

System and Curriculum:

Sakura International School offers Early Learning Center (1-3 years old) and Kindergarten (3-6) classes. Parents choose between Long Course and Short Course. Short Course students come only for class hours and Long Course students can be dropped off any time after 8:00 am before class and picked up any time after class before 6:00 pm. English is the main language spoken throughout the day.

The curriculum includes phonics, sightwords, reading and writing activities and theme studies. Mathematics, Science, Social Studies and Arts are taught throughout the day in English while encouraging independence and promoting positive social skills. Japanese is taught every day in ELC and set as an elective afterschool class for Kindergarten. Students learn about Japanese culture and customs through a flashcards program as well as cultural celebration. By the end of Kindergarten they will be able to read and write hiragana, katakana and grade one kanji.

School Facilities

Sakura International School Bunkyo Campus will be on the 3rd and 4th floor of the building. It is approximately 10 minute’s walk from Myogadani station and the building is situated in a quiet area known for its educational fervor. There are two public playgrounds and a sports facility within a short walking distance.  There are 7 classrooms for different age groups from 1-6 year olds and a multi-purpose room to be used as a big play room. All classrooms and bathrooms are fully refurbished for school use for the opening of our new campus.
